VISIT TO THE NEPALESE EMBASSY ON 10th MAY 2011

May 3rd. 2011, was a good day. Our Acting President, Jeffery Foo, VP2, Bayen Lok, AJK Ivan Leong, and our Secretary Mas Torah have visited the Ambassador, Dr. Rishi Adhikari & the Labor Attache’ from Nepal in the Nepal Embassy to discuss about the placement of Nepalese domestic helpers in Malaysia.

MEETING WITH DATO’ NG S.T OF MOH ON 7th March 2011

PAPA was called for a meeting with the Ministry Of Health on the 7th. March 2011. Those who attended were: Mr. Jeffery Foo; Mr. Foo Yong Hooi, Mr. Bayen Lok, Mejar (B) Mohd. Zainal & Mas Torah Naim.

We were informed that the Government has decided to implement that all foreign workers are required to purchase the Worker’s Insurance decided upon by our Government as a Consortium of Insurance Companies have formed. It is mandatory and the premium agreed upon is RM120.00 per year. And the employer will have to foot the bill for this insurance. We were briefed on the benefits and the rationale on the cost. Yes, we can see from the MOH’s point of view and are supportive that the government will make it mandatory for all employers to purchase insurance scheme for their workers and house maids.

SIGNING OF LETTER OF INTENT BETWEEN PAPA & ACRA ON 17.02.2011

The Association of Cambodian Recruiting Agencies (ACRA) has initiated a visit to PAPA and also to meet up with KSU & KDN to discuss about the issues concerning the recruiting and sending of Cambodian maids to Malaysia. Accompanying this delegation is the Director General of Labor, Dato’ Send Sakda who will lead the delegation to meet up with the Director General of KDN and KSU.

We are glad to see that ACRA is serious about the many issues surrounding the recruiting and the deployment of Cambodian maids to Malaysia. Both Associations have one common stand on the issue of salary; safety and protection of the maids and also the employers; monitoring of abuses and many other related issues that come with the employment of domestic maids.
